Ahhh, New York Fashion Week. Eight glorious days where women, like myself, are glued to their phones, iPads, and laptops voraciously taking in all the new trends, silhouettes, patterns, and palettes for the next season.
And, this year definitely did not disappoint. From dreamy Oscar De La Renta to the edgy Houghton and all that’s in between, New York Fashion Week produced some of the most beautiful Spring/Summer collections. Take a look at my favorites below and let me know what your favorite collections of New York Fashion Week were!!
Mimi Plange: This was one of the first collections I saw of NYFW and one of the first ones I fell in love with. Absolutely gorgeous. This collection is the perfect blend of avant garde/futuristic shapes with a touch of vintage, creating a collection that is fresh and new but also so wearable. Love it!!
Cushnie et Ochs: This collection is what I imagine a jet-setter fashionista to wear. Sleek lines. Bold, yet simple colors. With a touch of drama in each look. I can just imagine a woman who travels the globe and attends the best parties to wear each and every piece to one of her many social functions!
Alexander Wang: Alexander Wang has been and always will be one of my most favorite designers. His ability to make sportswear look so chic is truly breathtaking. He understands that most women can’t wear beautiful, frothy ball gowns and cocktail dresses on a daily basis, but rather that we have to wear pieces that are more “normal.” But, he injects a bit of fantasy and fashion in each of the “normal” pieces, perfectly blending everyday shapes with fantasy touches.
Sachin & Babi: I love this collection because of its simplicity and its uniqueness. There’s not much happening in each piece, but what is happening is different and fresh. From the gorgeous structured skirt to the soft and easy going patterns, there’s a little something in each piece that makes you stop and take a second look and think “Love that!”
ZAC Zac Posen: This collection is so perfectly spring and summer. There is literally a look for every possible spring or summer event that a woman could have. From wearing an ombré leather jacket in that transition from winter to spring and wearing a casual sweater/skirt combo for lunch with friends to wearing whites to watch a tennis match and throwing on a gorgeous gown for the summer gala, there’s literally a look for every occasion.
Charles Warren: I have a weakness for the 20’s. And, while at first glance, this collection doesn’t scream 20’s (there isn’t exactly flapper dresses or sparkly headbands here), once you take a real look at the collection, you see hints of 20’s blended with modern touches. There are several pieces that use the elements of fringe but they combine it with a modern silhouette like an off-the shoulder cocktail dress. The palette is also distinctly 20’s. Rather than being bright like many collections, the palette is more muted and deep colors, colors which I always imagine when I think of that bygone era.
Houghton: You know you’re old when you witness the second coming of trends. Case in point: the Houghton s/s 15 collection. There’s a hint of 90’s in each piece. From the plaid prints and the simple silhouettes, there seems to be a 90’s revival in the air. And, I have to say, I really like it. The pieces are simple but beautiful. Perfect pieces for the downtown girl’s everyday wardrobe.
Rosie Assoulin: This, my dear readers, is my dream wardrobe. From the absolutely stunning silhouettes and beautiful draping to the gorgeous colors and the simple touches, I am in love. I love that she allows the structure and shape of the pieces to do the talking and keeps the fabric simple with no patterns or changes of color. Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous.
Oscar De La Renta: This collection personifies spring to me. I felt like I was running through a field of daffodils and then stopping to have a picnic in a meadow with the sun shining down on me. From the gingham and florals to the bright colors and golden touches, to me this is what spring would wear if she were a person.
Naeem Khan: Hello glamour!! Every piece in this collection has a touch of glamour and luxury. The sparkly sequins, silky fabrics, and rich deep colors evokes luxury at its highest level. This collection is what I picture beautiful, famous people wearing in their beautiful lives, from the red carpet to a normal Tuesday night. So gorgeous!!
Michael Kors: Another collection perfect for spring and summer. The pieces look so light and comfortable. I also love how this collection seems to embody the spirit of America so perfectly. It’s relaxed but chic, light but attention-grabbing. Beautiful collection!
Carolina Herrera: The interesting thing about this collection is how simple each piece is but then theres a gorgeous graphic, such as the digitalized flower. Also, the fabrics look so luxurious and sumptuous, and the silhouettes are so perfectly feminine and beautiful. All around, Herrera delivered yet another beautiful collection.
